If you operate a truck or combination at or above 60,000 lbs combined licensed weight in Kentucky—whether based in KY or entering from another state—you generally need a KYU license and current decals, plus periodic weight-distance tax returns. Lighter vehicles below the threshold typically are not subject to KYU.
