Who Needs This Permit
You typically need a Wyoming trip permit if your power unit or combination is registered in another jurisdiction and you do not hold current IRP apportioned credentials that include Wyoming (WY). Common scenarios include first-time entry into Wyoming, occasional interstate moves, leasing situations where plates are not yet apportioned, or bridging coverage while permanent IRP plates are processed.
Carriers already displaying valid IRP cab cards with Wyoming listed generally do not need a separate trip permit for routine interstate operations.
How to Get It
Submit your company, USDOT, vehicle (VIN/plate), and requested start date through TruckPermits.online. We prepare and file the Wyoming temporary trip permit request with the appropriate WY motor carrier / DMV permitting channel, then deliver the issued permit document for your driver to carry (printed or electronic, as allowed by Wyoming).
- Complete the online order form with accurate vehicle and carrier data.
- Pay the combined state and TruckPermits.online service fees.
- Receive confirmation and your Wyoming trip permit for the approved validity period.

Permit Details
Interstate motor carriers entering Wyoming without IRP apportionment for WY risk citations, out-of-service orders, and costly delays at ports of entry and roadside inspections. The Temporary Trip Permit is the standard short-term solution while you arrange annual IRP credentials.
Trip vs. permanent IRP: A trip permit covers a single short visit. If you regularly operate in Wyoming or multiple IRP jurisdictions, TruckPermits.online can also assist with Annual IRP Assistance so you display apportioned plates and a cab card instead of buying trip permits repeatedly.
Timing: Most Wyoming trip permits are issued for approximately 72 hours from the effective date shown on the document. Start dates should match your planned entry into WY. Operating after expiration without renewed credentials is not permitted.
Keep the permit with the vehicle at all times while operating in Wyoming. Drivers should be prepared to present it alongside CDL, medical card, and other required credentials.
