Who Needs This Permit
You typically need a California trip permit if your power unit or combination is registered in another jurisdiction and you do not hold current IRP apportioned credentials that include California (CA). Common scenarios include first-time entry into California, occasional interstate moves, leasing situations where plates are not yet apportioned, or bridging coverage while permanent IRP plates are processed.
Carriers already displaying valid IRP cab cards with California listed generally do not need a separate trip permit for routine interstate operations.

Permit Details
